08 Sep YOU PANSY: DON’T BE AFRAID TO WEAR FLORALS
The buds have reached their ultimate potential, opening up in a vibrant display of celebration. The painted landscape makes eating al fresco and laying in the grass all the more enjoyable. So, to mark the occasion—we are draping floral fabric across our bodies and strapping it up on our feet. Floral patterns have been all over the catwalks, but they’re not just for the svelte models of fashion week. Men of all ages and sizes can work the flowers into their wardrobe.
Florals of 2014 are a subdued version of the Hawaiians of the past. Let’s get it right: florals are in, the tacky oversized Hawaiian button ups are not. There are so many ways to take advantage of the great patterns, from laid back to dressed up. Finally, a chance for men to work some eccentricity into their styles. Below are some tips for growing your new floral look.
1. Wear it fitted
We think that all styles look best when fitted.
2. Work it into your existing wardrobe
Adopting new looks should be easy and match your existing likes. Most importantly it should be something you are comfortable wearing. No need to rewrite your entire dress code.
3. Pick one print
Some men can pull off contrasting prints. We suggest keeping it easy if you are donning flowers for the first time. Choose one pattern that you love and work the rest of the outfit around this look.
Just looking for a taste? It doesn’t have to be a wild jungle, subtlety can be sexy with florals. Suspenders are a nice way to keep those britches up. You can throw a floral button up under a solid color suit coat. And as for the suit coats, you can always get a floral pocket square to tuck on the outside. If you are going for a floral tie then we recommend a solid color shirt underneath it. Accessories are a great way to add zest in an understated way.
5. Top it off
Go for the look that fits like a cyclist cap, with a flat leather bill and a clasp in the back. Keep in mind bucket hats are also coming back around.
Men, pop culture has given you a green light to wear flowers and still be all tough guy. As you choose your look for the warmer months consider bringing an inkling of flower power, and let your style bloom.
